VEGETABLES AND FARM PRODUCE
Gardeners get ready for the Lansdowne Fair.
There are many items in the Vegetable and Farm Produce Section that will be ready for the fair. Check the Lansdowne Fair Prize Book for information about entering items in this section.Points to consider for exhibition:
- Display all entries on paper plates, unless otherwise indicated.
- Variety name must appear on the entry tag if required.
- Tomatoes – leave calyx on tomatoes
- Carrots – leave ½” top on carrots
- Rhubarb – stalks should be uniform in colour, size and length. Leaves should be trimmed to a fan shape, approximately 2”. Stalks should be pulled, not cut.
- Onions – leave ½” of root on onions. Do NOT peel outside skin. Wipe gently with cloth if needed to remove soil. Tops of green onions should be trimmed to approximately 4”- 6” above white shank.
- Vegetables and farm produce should be well matched in size, colour and shape if displaying more than one in an entry.
- Produce should be dry, and free from insect and disease damage.
